Maribyrnong City Council in Melbourne wanted to understand if certain cultural groups were more likely to subscribe to its optional green waste subscription service. The research identified a strong cultural dimensions to resident behaviour, reflecting different attitudes towards and understanding of the service.
Council incurs significant costs in sending green waste to landfill and also recognsed the opportunity to reduce its carbon footprint. The evidence informed council’s subsequent efforts to raise particpation in the service.
